Happy Hands Family Child Care is proud to offer instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) . This is done through classes I've had to increase my vocabulary and Signing Time videos. I always speak the signs to the children so they are hearing the words in addition to seeing the sign. We do not use Baby Sign in our program. All signs used are ASL. Signing with the children helps them to communicate before they can talk. Studies have shown that hearing children that learn sign language have fewer tantrums, higher IQ scores and larger vocabularies. It's fun for all of us!
I obtained my 3 under 2 license back in July. That means I can take 3 children under the age of 2, with at least one of them being 12 months. I'm licensed for up to 6 children, but like to keep my enrollment at 4 or 5 at most. When I do not have three children under 2 years old in my home, my license converts back to the regular 6+2 Colorado license (6 children in care full time with no more than 2 under 2 years old, plus 2 school age children when school is out for a total of 8, including the provider's own children under 13).
I've finished both my classes (Intro to Early Childhood Education, and Child Growth and Development) and am thrilled to say I got A's in both classes! My next classes (Guidance, and Health, Safety and Nutrition) start in January and February. I'm looking forward to both of them!
